–Books for men and women while we wait…

Thank you for your comment. We will make a conscious effort to rotate the magazines and books in the waiting area. If anyone has any magazines or books that they would like to donate to the surgery for the waiting room, please hand them in at reception. They would be very much appreciated.

–Shorter waiting times for blood test results…

The reason why there can often be a long wait to get a blood test appointment here at the surgery is because we only have two phlebotomy clinics a week; these sessions have not grown in line with our increase in patients. One is held on a Tuesday morning (often used for fasting blood tests) and the other on a Thursday afternoon. These clinics get booked up quite quickly.

The phlebotomy clinics are hosted here but are funded outside of the practice and therefore the provision of such is not within the control of the surgery. We would like to be able to host more clinics a week but are dependent on the relevant funding from our local clinical commissioning group. Of course, there are other local clinics which our patients can attend; please ask at reception for a list of local phlebotomy clinics. Thank you for your comment.

–TV Programmes showing in the waiting room…

This idea as well as the idea of a radio in the waiting room is something that we have considered before. However, we have many different patients with differing tastes in entertainment and music come through our surgery doors each day. Keeping everybody happy with the choice of TV programme or music would prove very challenging. We have therefore decided that it is not something we intend to implement at the moment.

–News and special events posted on a notice board…

Thank you for your comment. As you will have seen, we have two notice boards in the waiting room. One is used during health campaigns (for example; flu season, travel information) and one is used for notices and posters. We are asked to display a lot of posters from different organisations so there is rarely space on this board to put additional information.

We do feel however that your suggestion is a very good one. So we have created some GP profiles on our practice website. These profiles include a photograph of each of our GPs and a little description of their hobbies and interests.

Take a look here…

We will look at how we could incorporate this information into a notice board in our waiting room.

–An email, text or letter informing us when the surgery is closed for training etc. This would be really useful. I left work early to see my GP to find it was closed

Thank you for your suggestion. Firstly, we would like to apologise for the inconvenience this caused you. We try to give our patients as much notice as possible of these surgery closures by means of our practice website, our NHS Choices page, our patient newsletter and within the surgery itself. With the busy lives that many of our patients lead however, we appreciate that it is not necessarily practical to expect our patients to check the sites every time they intend to make a visit to the surgery. Email and texting is a means of communication that has already proved very useful to us here at the practice in distributing our patient newsletter and informing patients of appointment dates and times. We do feel however that we could utilise these facilities more, particularly in communicating to patients information like surgery closures. This is something we intend to look into and enforce in the near future. Thank you for your comment.
